ANN - The Tropical Floral Dresses Sell Poorly at 14% of Ann Taylor Stores

Ann Taylor, the fabulous fashion retailer, was profiled this week. We consulted 28 stores nationwide and asked respondents how July's sales were compared with previous months, is there any excess inventory that will go on sale soon, which products are selling well, are economic factors hurting business at your store, and how are those tropical floral dresses selling? Fourteen people or 50% reported business to be just average this month. One person or 4% reported it as under average. 12 people or 43% reported it to be above average, while one person or 4% thought it was very strong. 11 people thought they had no excess inventory and 17 people thought they did. (Animal print cardigans and jeweled dresses were cited.) Thirteen people or 46% of those polled thought economic factors were hurting business. Four people or 14 per cent felt that Ann Taylor customers weren’t fazed by such things. But 8 people or 29% weren’t sure, while three people or 11% thought the economy will impact customer spending soon. It was good news then that the tropical floral dresses were selling well, according to 76% respondents. Only 14% people said these dresses were bombing.
