BBY - Housing Slump Not Affecting Durables Sales at Majority of Best Buy, Inc. Locations

Approximately 30% of Best Buy, Inc. store locations surveyed across the U.S. indicated that sales of consumer durables were being negatively impacted by the housing market slump. Durable items considered in our survey include items such as refrigerators, dishwashers, range ovens and other big-ticket items tied to the housing market cycle. Data suggested that inventory levels do not appear to be abnormally high. In addition, consumers appear to be as focused on brand name as they are on price. Nearly 90% of store locations considered stocking levels for popular durables to be adequate with 35% of locations anticipating that discounts would be needed in order to reduce excess inventory.
